Leaving on a Jet Plane

Today my friend, Dr. Pam Lange, and I take off for Tokyo, Japan.  She and I will be leading a school accreditation visit to Yokota Middle School on Yokota Air Base about 30 miles from Tokyo.  There is an organization called AdvancED which is a group that sends teams of educators (teachers and administrators) to check out schools all across the world.  Actually, AdvancED will be sending a team of people to Lander next school year to visit the schools in Fremont County School District 1.  Pam and I will be visiting a school that is part of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA).  That group is in charge of school districts associated with military bases in the United States and in other countries across the world.  In the past, I've visited schools in Germany, Korea, Okinawa and now in Japan.  The schools are American schools that serve the children of our men and women who are in the armed services.  The teachers and administrators at the schools are mostly American as well.  We will try to blog to you every day about our both our adventures and our work.  Please post some comments or questions back to us.  If we don't know the answers, we'll try to find out!

  1. Hi Paige and Pam!
Today has been busy! We have already had reading, writing, walk to read, music, and PE. In PE we had an archery test. Recess was nice because it was warm but cloudy. We are getting ready to take our math test test on measurement. We LOVE Jackson's shirt. One of our classmates brought baby pocket gophers to school today. She had them in her pocket for the entire morning :).

Question of the Day from Iliana- It is 12:35 here, what time is it there?

  2. Good morning from Tokyo. Pam and I just got up. We are 15 hours ahead of you. So now it's 7:30 in the morning on Friday here...so it's 4:30 in the afternoon on Thursday in Lander. Basically, we lost a day on our way over here. We left on Wednesday morning and got here in very late afternoon on Thursday. Our flight was 12 hours. It is warm here, but it's kind of overcast a lot. Not as sunny as we are used to. We wish we could see the baby pocket gophers:-)
